Do you celebrate yourself everyday?
One of the ways I have been celebrating myself everyday is by keeping a gratitude journal next to my bed. I write in it each more five things I am grateful for each day. This is something I have been saying I was going to do for years, and I finally made the commitment this year. What I am grateful for usually doesn't have a monetary value associated with it. Today, our 18 year old, rescue dog, Joe passed over the rainbow bridge. I wrote in my gratitude journal, "I am grateful for all the unconditional love and joy that Joe has brought us over the years."
Another way I have been celebrating myself is stopping to acknowledge my wins. If you are like me, you are busy and driven by goals. I have learned it is important to stop and celebrate the milestones along the way to the bigger goals. Each evening when my partner and I sit down to dinner, we share our wins with each other for the day. Sometimes, I treat myself to a special dinner, spa services, a vacation, or something I have been wanting to do or buy.
Unless I am having a leisurely day at home on a Sunday, I celebrate myself with my daily rituals of showering with my favorite Jo Malone products, my morning and evening skin care routine, and dressing in a way that celebrates who I am; and I feel great about myself.
When I was reading the Madame Chic Collection, by Jennifer L. Scott, I remembered my time in Europe staying with friends. At dinner time, it was a celebration in the home. They brought out their finest China and crystal - not because I was visiting - but because this is how they live everyday.
I have really been exploring this minimalist lifestyle, which has changed my thinking, actions, and life.
When you start living with less, but more of the best, it changes your daily routine and way of life.
We all get busy with our lives. I know that my partner and I share a calendar, so we know what each other is doing everyday. It isn't always possible to cook dinner at home or sit down at a restaurant for dinner. Sometimes, it is having delivery from one of our favorite restaurants. Instead of eating from the plastic containers, we actually serve the food on plates. We sit at the table with the placemats, the cloth napkins, the good silver, and drink from our best crystal glasses. It is about us celebrating ourselves and our lives.
It is easy to crawl out of bed each morning, begrudgingly get ready for the day, trudge through it, and eat your delivery food in bed when you have a busy life. Think for a moment how it might be different if you made little changes that made you feel better about yourself, your achievements, your wins, and celebrated you.
