We believe in giving back to our community. In fact, giving back to our community and helping others is one of our core values and beliefs.
Already this year, AARON B DUKE participated in the 2017 Pasadena Showcase House of Design raising funds for music education. In 2015, we participated in Angeleno Magazine's Live & Dine LA, which is designed to raise awareness and benefit Project Angel Food and its mission of providing healthy meals to the sick in Los Angeles County with the our industry partner, Quintus.
This time, giving back to our community hits a little closer to home. In case you didn't know, I am originally from Texas. Even as an interior design studio in Los Angeles, California, we want to give back to our community in Texas and Louisiana after the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.
We believe a well-lived life begins at home, and our hearts are saddened to see so many people lose their homes.
For some of us, we have never endured the tragedy of losing our home whether to fire, flood, tornado, hurricane, or other natural disaster. Nor, can some of us imagine what it would be like to be homeless.
I ask you to take a moment. Close your eyes. Imagine what it would be like to not have your home anymore.
Think about all the memories you have made in your home. Think about the holidays you have shared in your home with friends and family. Think about your prized possessions being destroyed. Think about having to live in a shelter or some place that isn't your home. Think about having to leave your pets behind. Think about your child and the home they are learning, growing, and playing. Think about not being able to sleep in your bed. Think about not being able to cook in your kitchen and enjoy meals in your dining room. Think about not being able to take a hot shower or bath everyday to clean yourself. Think about it all this was taken away from you and there was nothing you could do. Think about that feeling of powerlessness. Think about losing your hope and faith.
Now, how did that make you feel?
I know for me personally, I would be devastated. My home is my haven. It is my sanctuary. It is where I go to for comfort.
I am reminded of the movie, The Wizard of Oz. At the end, Dorothy clicks her ruby slippers together and says, "There's no place like home."
Since my business is focused on enhancing the way people live and their homes, I knew I had to do something about it, and I am asking for your help!
